ABSTRACT
Homosexuality is generally viewed as unfavourable because of people’s different
traditional, religious and homophobic mindsets and much more although opinions
differ as to interpretation. As of today’s society, there is a wide variety of different
opinions ranging to extreme ends from the examples written above. A lot of efforts
have been made to advocate for its cause through the form of parades and
accepting communities, especially more in western countries such as America,
Canada and Netherlands than Asian countries like China, Saudi Arabia and
Indonesia. On the other hand, Asian countries are known to be more conservative
and less accepting of homosexuality due to their diverse heritage and cultural
beliefs, which is why we decided to make this survey to prove that this stereotype
is not applied to people in current society. Thus, in this report we have discussed
the different efforts to advocate for and spread awareness of homosexuality.
1. INTRODUCTION
Homosexuality is defined as being sexually attracted to the same gender. This
term was first used in the late 19th century. Soon after, the homosexual community
was also interchangeably called the gay community. Previously it was criminalised,
but was first legalised in 2001 in the Netherlands, then followed by other countries
over the years. There are currently various views on homosexuality, ranging from
extreme disagreement to complete acceptance, with many movements around the
