revoke of the contracts is a sensitive political issue for both Japan and Korea. Not
many people are aware of the political causes and issues of the boycott, but these
should not be veiled.
The boycott of Japanese goods is a citizen organized event, thus it brings a
great sensation; considering that almost every student studying abroad, and people
living overseas are not only aware of the event but also taking part in the boycott
themselves, we can see that the boycott has gone viral. On the contrary, not many
people are participating in the boycott as compared to those who are aware of the
event. It can be that the boycott could have felt as an obligation to those few
number of people as the event was taken for granted among the Koreans over
time.
As the results of the surveys showed that many people knew about the
boycott and were aware of how it started, which we can say Korea’s boycott on
Japanese products had given a noticeable impact on the society, but many number
of people did not know how the two countries changed politically although there
was a significant change in Korea’s political landscape. Through this research, our
team hope people can learn more and raise more awareness about the purpose of
the boycott and its effects that leads to huge social and political impacts.
