Fig. 4: Results of Question (d)

Although many people knew and thought that boycotting is a necessary and
reasonable action, only 23% replied they are taking part in the boycott. Also, the

percentage of people who do not participate in the boycott took up to 20% which
is not a low percentage. However, the people who were trying their best to boycott

Japanese goods took up the most percentage which was 57%, which is more than
half of the number of people we surveyed.

               4. DISCUSSION

Though it is not the best statistic, through the surveys and interviews, we can

see that the boycott has a high significance.

Through the results, we can relate that the boycotting action is being

recognized by many people. A large number of people were aware of the boycott

action that is being held among the Koreans; among those people, 64 percent were

certain about their knowledge of the purpose of the boycott and how it is being

held. Among the rest, 25 percent were not very sure with how and why the boycott

started, and the other 11 percent had no idea at all. From these results, we could

view that the boycott is treated as a rudimental event between the Koreans, but

still quite a number of people are not aware of the causes of the boycott.

                                                                                                       53
