STALKING
Stalking is a persistent course of conduct or actions by a person
which are intended to maintain contact with, or exercise power
and control over another person. These actions are unwanted by
the victim, and occur more than once. They cause distress, loss of
control, fear or harassment to the victim.
Stalking can take many
forms including:
• Turning up at home, place of
work or when out socialising.
• Following, watching,
monitoring or photographing
the victim.
• Phoning, texting, faxing or
emailing or sending letters.
• Spying, gathering information
through friends and associates.
• Using Social networks to
leave messages or make
contact.
• Threats of violence, & other
ways of gaining control.
• Using message boards
or graffiti to leave
messages.
The Protection from Harassment (Northern Ireland) Act 1997
