This was the 20th year of the Langstone Tourna-
ments, with the hotel being as popular as ever. The
opening evening’s fun bowls drive was very hard
fought with Carole Glass, Gerry Williams, Philip
Green & Sandra Odams ending up as the top team
on the night.
In the 2-bowl singles quarter finals Michael Bell
eased through 7 - 4 over John Shere with Anthea
Bell also getting through 8 - 6 over Sandra Odams.
Brian Clarke also eased through 9 - 5. Needing a
sudden death extra end, Geoff Cleave edged an 8 -

and Champion Anthea Bell In the semi-finals Geoff also had another close

result with a last end single to beat Michael Bell 8 - 7, thus preventing a husband and wife final as

Shere 9 - 1. Anthea kept up this form in the final to
beat Geoff Cleave 8 - 3.
In the pairs quarters only one of the matches
was very close except for Mike Allen & Trevor Shop-
land who scraped past Gordon & Joan Carbin 9 - 8.
Joy Booth & Tessa Shere’s recorded a 10 - 7 victory
over Ronald & Helene Tipper, coming from 7 across
with two ends to play.
Maureen & Geoff Cleave won 13 - 3 and John
Shere & Martin Booth won 17 - 10.
In the semi’s John & Martin won 12 - 3 and Mau-
reen & Geoff Cleave won 10 - 8. The final was as hard
fought as expected but from 7 across John & Martin
Booth beat Maureen & Geoff Cleave 10 - 7.
In the Triples quarters a low scoring game saw Sheila
