PUTTING YOUR FOOT IN IT!
PUTTING YOUR FOOT IN IT!
Fender Displacement - I know of one Umpire (some
do make up their own rules), who teaches people it is
wrong to put your foot behind a fender to stop it moving
but there is no rule in the English rule book that stops
you doing this! Nor I believe in anyone else’s rule
books.
It makes good sense to stop the fender moving
and possibly disturbing a jack or bowls in the ditch and
this was a view taken by Umpires many years ago and
in my view still holds true today.
If a Jack or bowl ends up on the floor between
mat and fender, not even chalk marks will restore ei-
ther exactly back in place.
Also, there is no rule that prevents you fixing a
fender to a mat with something like Velcro as it makes
good sense. They do it in Ireland and for our Welsh
and Scottish readers in my version of their rule books,
there is nothing that prevents you from stopping the
fender moving - discuss!.
