22 In group 1 Yarnscombe qualified after beating Christow and last year’s champions Beer
Mariners. It was tighter in group 2 with Exeter Nomads, Shebbear and Totnes Creameries
all winning one match each. However it was Totnes Creameries who qualified after winning
the most disciplines.
The final like last year was a very close affair. Totnes won the Singles 12-2, but Yarnscombe
responded with a commanding 17-4 victory in the Pairs. The advantage swung further towards
Yarnscombe in the Triples where Yarnscombe won 10-7. It therefore came down to the Fours
and on the Penultimate end Totnes led 12-5 and an advantage of just one shot. On the final end
it all came down to Yarnscombe’s skip Tony Main’s last wood who pushed his way through the
head to pick up 3 and ensured Yarnscombe levelled the final at 2 games each but became
County Team champions by virtue of a 37 - 35 shots scoreline.
Champion of Champions Report
The Champion of Champions saw 23 club champions compete to find the County Cham-
pion of Champions. In the morning all players participated in a round robin with the winners and
the two highest second place players advancing to the Quarter Finals. In the first Quarter Final
Eric Pavey (Sidbury) defeated Brian Treadwell (Goodleigh) 8-6. In the second Quarter Final
John Parnell (Wonford) was defeated by Peter Morgan (Colyton) 8-11. In the Third Quarter Final
Steve Collins (Christow) was defeated 14-5 by Dick Boon of Totnes Creameries. The final Quar-
ter Final saw David Summers (Tavistock) overcome Grenville Gerry (Shebbear) 10-2.
The first Semi Final saw Peter Morgan take a commanding lead against Dick Boon and it
was lead that Dick could not crawl back with Peter Winning 11-3. The Second Semi Final be-
tween Eric Pavey and David Summers was a tight affair with the lead swapping hands several
times, however it was eventually won 10-9 by David Summers. In the Final Peter Morgan started
off confidently and took an early lead, however David Summers crawled back and by winning
six ends in a row he had a commanding lead and he eventually won 10-5
Brian Medland Mixed Fours - Shebbear Edge Home
ISCA once again hosted the Brian Medland Mixed Fours. This is the second year that this
competition has been held in memory of our former chairman Brain Medland. Despite the snow
and ice 12 teams participated meaning there was three groups of four, with the winner and the
overall highest runner up progressing to the Semi Final.
In the first Semi Final winners of group A, Totnes Creameries Rose & Mike Morrison, Dick
Boon & June Rosser faced group C winners Bow’s Nick Wyatt, Royston Cook, Monica Simons
& Ruth Webber, with the Totnes Creameries quartet winning 12-3.
In the second Semi Final Group B Winners Shebbear’s Grenville Gerry, Richard Whiterow,
Yvonne Lester & Rita Lacey beat the highest runners up who were Silverton’s Danny & Michelle
Gooding, Ken Kelly & Marian Endacott 8-6.
The Final was a very close affair with the lead changing hand several times throughout
the match. By the 4th end Shebbear led 5-3 but by the eighth end Totnes led 10-7. At the com-
pletion of the 10 regulation ends the scores stood at 10 all and a sudden death extra end was
required. In mounting tension it was the Shebbear team that took control of the last end and
scored the all-important single that gave them the title.
