In the Pairs it seemed 23
that Woolsery were
keeping in the game at
8 all but a 1 - 2 - 1 closing
run gave Yarnscombe’s Gra-
ham & Elliott James an 11 - 8
win.
The Singles was certainly the
tightest match of the final with
Yarnscombe’s Frank Jackson
leading 7 - 6 going into the
last end but Woolsery’s Sally
O’Neill, who had bowled very
well throughout the match
scored a single shot to give
her a 7 all draw and thus pre-
vent a clean sweep of the
games for Yarnscombe. The
Yarnscombe in White tops with finalists Woolsery final result was a 7 points to
1 victory, with a shots difference of 43 - 24.
WINKLEIGH TRIPLES
WINKLEIGH TRIPLES
The annual Winkleigh Triples Tournament once again threw up some very competitive matches.
21 Teams entered the event and after the third round of play no less than 6 teams were unde-
feated. Two of these met each other in their fourth and final match West Hill had 6 points and a
plus of 12 shots whilst Moretonhampstead had the same 6 points and a plus of 18. A tremendous
game ensued and a two to West Hill on the final end meant the match finished all-square at 5
all.
This draw left both teams on 7 points and ended their chances of winning, with West Hill
finishing fourth and Moretonhampstead finishing third, although both teams had the satisfaction
of ending the day undefeated.
Great Torrington “A” were riding high with 6 points and a plus of 18 shots from their three
games but found opponents Uppottery in great form, scoring three on the last end for a 9 - 5
victory effectively ending Great Torrington’s hopes of winning the event. This was only Uppot-
tery’s second game and also put them on 6 points and plus 18. In their final game they romped
home 11 - 2 and left them on 8 points and +25. This shots plus was good but in the end not
good enough as the finished in second place.
Woolsery opened their account with a
stunning 16 - 1 victory, which in the end proved
very crucial. They were pushed much harder in
their second game.
Going into the last end they led 7 - 4 but
were given a fright by Lapford “B” who almost
scored the three they needed for a draw but in
the end it was only two and Woolsery edged
home 7 - 6.
Another victory followed with a 15 - 3 re-
sult. Like the others who went into their last
game, Woolsery had 6 points but a big plus of
28 shots. However, they showed no nerves and
recorded a convincing final victory by 11 - 9 to
with the event with the best shots plus of 28. Champions Woolsery seated with
Dave Brown second placed Uppottery
