A 100-year-old bowls enthusiast represented his club in a tour-
nament for the first time in a recent event, helping it achieve
second place against 14 other teams. Peter Dawson has been
a member of Iver Short Mat Bowls Club for more than 10 years
and plays every week. But he had always been away for the
annual tournament until this year.
His friends were not about to let the occasion pass unno-
ticed. They presented him with a new bowls bag, a card and a
club shirt. Club secretary Barry Bates said: "He may be our old-
est member but he makes up for it in energy and enthusiasm.
He is quite an inspiration."
There were 15 teams from all over Bucks taking part in
the tournament which took place at Iver Village Hall in High
Street. A team from Richings Park won with Mr Dawson's Iver
team the runners-up.
Iver Short Mat Bowls Club (ISMBC) was formed in 1999
and has seen its membership numbers increase to around 25 members, who play either on
a Wednesday afternoon or evening – some play both. Membership ages range from 18 up-
wards. In addition to the Wednesday afternoon and evening sessions, the club also competes
in a winter league where its players have won trophies and gone on to play for the county.
