              Midleton Bowls Club staged their Annual Fours competition for the Midleton Perpetual
              Trophy concluded with the final session after 272 players played in 68 teams from all          33
              the leading clubs in the Cork Zone of the I.I.B.A. The event was held in the Midleton G.A.A.
              Club Pavilion and included many surprise results throughout the competition.
                   At the quarter final stage; Grange/Frankfield (J. Long) beat Wilton (M. Barry, F. Thompson,
              R. O’Donoghue & C. Eadie), Crosshaven  (C. Middleton), beat Douglas Community School (S.
              O’Driscoll, D. Murray, M. Boland & J. O’Driscoll), Mitchelstown (V. O’Donnell) beat Lower Aghada
              (C. Vickers, A. Stack, C. McGregor & L. Hickey)and Douglas GAA (E. O’Mahony) beat St. Vin-
              cent’s (M. Quinn, R. Coughlan, G. Quinn & M. Coughlan).
                   Semi-finals saw Crosshaven (C. Middleton) beat Grange/Frankfield
              (P. Long, J. Swanick, B. Stack & J. Long) and Mitchelstown (V. O’Donnell)
              beat Douglas G.A.A. (C. Saville, N. Kelleher, T. Byrne & E. O’Mahony) (7/6).
                   In the Final, Mitchelstown Dave Cahill, Patricia O’Connell, Richard
              Cahill & Vinny O’Donnell opened up with a single but Crosshaven’s Mary
              Middleton, Grainne Murphy, Keith Middleton & Conor Middleton replied with
              a two to take the lead. At this point Mitchelstown stepped up a gear with a
              stunning five and followed this up with a three and a single to lead 10/2.
              With just two end s to go, Crosshaven needed to score big to get back into

              Vinny O’Donnell, the Mitchelstown Skip.  The Umpires on duty for the final O’Shaugnessy
              session were Marie O’Leary, Eddie Mills & Albert Ruxton.
