Seventeen teams played this event in 3 groups of four and one of five, with the top four
also qualifying for the National finals. Remarkably five and three, with a quarter of the
teams were from Canvey Island Football Club. As usual the top two teams from each group
went into the main knockout and the remainder into the Plate.
The teams who progressed to the main Quarter Finals were: Keef Paxman (GPCA), Nigel
Reed (Woodlands), Dave Woods (East Hanningfield) and Peter Skippen (Whitehall) against
Rob and Greg Wade and Jonathon East (Falcon) and Emily Poulter (Ramsden Bellhouse), Rob’s
team winning 8:4; Mitchell Young, Matt Dillon, Derek and Chris Coates (Springhouse) v Jackie
& Steve Spooner (Hatfield Peverel), Peggy May and Adrian Atkinson (Falcon), Jackie’s team
winning 10:4;
Tony Ealham, David and Mark Chittock and Andy Philbrick (Falcon) v Pauline Child, Eileen
Smith-Allen, Pat Goodchild (East Tilbury) and Brenda Neil (Sanguine), Pauline’s team doing
well to win 10:4 and; Barry Hedges (GPCA), Peter Fautley, Steve Killington and Paul Bax (East
Hanningfield) v Phil & Shirley Banner (Island), John Pye (East Hanningfield) and Babs Morokutti
( Springhouse), Barry’s team winning 8:6. In the Semi-Finals Barry’s team beat Pauline’s team
7:3 and Rob’s team beat Jackie’s team 9:2.
Barry’s team continued their winning form beating Rob’s team 9:4. Pauline’s team beat
Jackie’s team in the play off for third & fourth place 12:6 The Finalists in the Plate were Terry &
Shannon Mead and Colin Addis (Warren Heath) and Bob Taylor (Willow Park) v Jeff & Pat
Hodgkins, Denise Martin and Pat Cross (Canvey Island Football Club), Terry’s team winning
18:3.
Essex County Triples

Twenty-eight teams, split up into 4 groups of 5 and 2 of 4, took part in this event. The teams that
succeeded in coming in the first two of their group played in the Main Knockout as follows: Keef
Paxman (GPCA), Bob and Carol Taylor (Willows Park) v Mitchell Young, Pauline and Penny
Lowe (Springhouse), Keef’s team winning a close game 6:5;
Terry & Shannon Mead (Warren Heath) and Peggy May (Falcon) couldn’t overcome the
strength of Barry Hedges (GPCA), Nigel Reed (Woodlands) and Peter Fautley (East Hanning-
field), losing 2:10;
Anthony Fautley (GPCA), Steve Killington and Paul Bax (East Hanningfield) v Tony Eal-
ham, David and Mark Chittock (Falcon), Anthony’s team losing 5:11 and; Emily, Sylvia and David
Poulter (Ramsden Bellhouse) v Tony Soar, Elaine Carrington and Evelyn May (Whitehall), the
Poulters comfortably winning 14:3.
In the Semi-Finals Keef Paxman’s team played in another close game but this time suc-
cumbed 5:6 to Barry Hedges’ team. The Poulters had a close game with the Falcon team but
lost 5:8. The Falcon team continued their winning streak by beating Barry Hedges’ team in a
tight game 7:6. The Poulters recovered their form in the Play Off for third and fourth place by
having a comfortable 12:4 win over Keef Paxman’s team.
The finalists in the Plate were Rob & Greg Wade and Andy Philbrick (Falcon) v Pauline
Child, Eileen Smith-Allen and Pat Goodchild (East Tilbury), the Falcon team winning 10:2.
Essex County Singles

Forty-seven players in 11 groups of four and one of three competed in this event. As usual the
top two went through to the Main Knockout and the remainder to the Plate Competition. The
first of the Main Quarter Finals was between Emily Poulter (Ramsden Bellhouse) and Terry
Mead (Warren Heath), Terry winning 13:4. Rob Wade (Falcon) beat Derek Coates (Springhouse)
9:8. John Pye (East Hanningfield) beat Paul Glenister (Atte Bower) 13:3. Dave Wooller (Island)
beat Brenda Crowe (Falcon) 9:5.
In the semi-finals Rob Wade beat Terry Mead 11:4 and Dave Wooller had a tight game
with John Pye but managed to win 7:6. Dave Wooller played a dominant final game to beat
Rob Wade 12:3. In the play off for third and fourth Terry Mead beat John Pye 10:4. The Plate
Competition saw Dave Chittock (Falcon) beat Dave Woods (East Hanningfield) 14:5
