CROSSHAVEN PAIR TRIUMPH
CROSSHAVEN PAIR TRIUMPH
Conna Short Mat Bowls Club staged the final session of their an-
nual licensed 3-bowl pairs Tournament for the Conna Perpetual
Shield. The competition was held in the local Community Hall with
93-teams doing battle for the top prizes over the weekend. At the
Semi-final stage, Wilton’s Kay & Pat McCarthy beat Crosshaven’s
Mary & Conor Middleton, whilst another Crosshaven pair fared bet-
ter, with Eddie Farrell & Con Middleton beat Carrigaline GAA’s Paddy Tierney & Maurice
Hayes.
Crosshaven struck the first blow in the final with Eddie Farrell & Con Middleton scor-
ing consecutive two’s on the opening two ends. However Wilton’s Kay & Pat McCarthy
levelled the score with a single and a three. The Crosshaven pair struck back and took
the next end with a three to lead 7 - 4. Back came the Wilton duo with a two to remain just
one shot behind. A single to Crosshaven gave them a two shot lead but the next and
penultimate end proved decisive with Eddie Farrell & Con Middleton scoring a four to
give Crosshaven a six shot lead with one end to go. The Wilton pair could only score a
single on the last end leaving Crosshaven as the winners by 12 shots to 7.
The Umpires on duty for the final session were Hazel Foley, Hazel Payne, Con O’-
Sullivan, Michael J. O’Shaughnessy and Albert Ruxton. The individual prizes were pre-
sented by Liam Hannigan, who also presented the Perpetual Trophy to Con Middleton,
the skip of the winning team.

Villa Flamenca SMBC
Villa Flamenca SMBC
The Villa Flamenca Club is located within
the Hotel Villa Flamenca in Nerja, Spain
and has three mats. Bowling currently
takes place on Monday and Thursday af-
ternoons and played by ESMBA rules. The
indoor location is extremely comfortable
both in the winter and summer.
The club has been in existence since
2001, firstly in a function room in a local
bar/cafe and since early 2012 at the Hotel. The hotel facilities are great and we have been
made to feel very much at home. Membership is somewhat different in Nerja to that ex-
perienced in the UK, with some members being resident in the town, some semi resident
and others appearing at varying times throughout the year. Membership levels tend to
be around 25 with additions for visitors. I would rate the standard of most members as
very good and we look forward to further development in our new home. Holiday visitors
are appearing we hope that this will continue into the future.
New members with any type of bowling experience will be particularly welcome as
the club enters a new phase, looking towards expansion. Residents and "semi-residents"
in Nerja and the surrounding area, who are not experienced bowlers, are also welcome
to visit the club to try this very satisfying form of the game with a view to becoming a
playing member. Bowls are available for use and tuition can be given if necessary.
Holiday visitors to Nerja (pronounced Nerha), are also welcome to join in club ses-
sions. If members of UK clubs arrive in sufficient numbers competition matches can be
arranged. The hotel is situated at Calle Andalucia No. 1, 29780 Nerja, Malaga
