The pairs section is always the
most competitive and has the
largest entry. The quarter finals saw
wins for Aaron Ward over Fra Dillon
and Sean Quinn over John Morris
while Kevin Conroy accounted for
fellow international Eddie Curran
and Kevin Blakeley just pipped
Ronnie Stubbs.
The highly experience father
and son Kevin and Sean Conroy
accounted 9 - 4 for Blakeley while
Quinn proved too strong for club
Sean Conroy and Kevin Conroy
with IIBA President Mrs Flo McNally mate Sean Quinn.
In the final the Oriel pair had a tight tussle with the
Quinn / Davidson partnership just pipping them 8 -
7 in an excellent match.

SINGLES
In the singles, John Quinn's record in singles com-
petition set him out as favourite to claim the title and
so it proved. In the quarter final he accounted for D
O'Kane and in the semi-final came through 8 - 7
against Andrew Morrison who had upset the form
book by defeating the highly experienced and fan-
cied Colum McHugh.
In the other semi-final Sean Trainer had a
similar tight struggle coming through 8 - 7 against
Michael Hand. Quinn's experience told in the final
where although there was never much in the he IIBA President Mrs Flo McNally and
held the upper hand to win 8 - 4. winner John Quinn from Donegal

Irish Short Mat Players Tour
At the British Championships in Potters, Seamus Kyne and Craig Burgess discussed the pos-
sibility of bringing the Short Mat Players
Tour to Ireland. The game had been
stagnating and was in need of a boost
and the tour event was something
which it was believed would stimulate
interest.
The IIBA executive accepted the
then Hon Secretary’s view that it was
an event worth staging and gave it its
support.
The first singles competition
staged at the Belfast Indoor Stadium
was a success and the professional Winners Nigel Gamble and Simon McCullough
manner in which it was organised was with short mat tour Chairman
