Woods' singles glory seals the set
Woods' singles glory seals the set
Jason Woods of Bob Carter SMBC claimed his maiden county sin-
gles title at Hingham Sports and Social Club with a 12-4 win over
Wymondham's Chris Mann and is now the sixth person to have now
won the other five county titles also. Woods confirmed his win hav-
ing come out as the top performer through the groups with three
wins and a plus thirty three shot difference.
Gary Best emerged as the second best performer on "shots for"
edging out Chris Mann into thIrd position having seen them both
on plus twenty two shots. A
surprise in fourth place out the groups was Maurice Taylor
having won all his match's with a plus nineteen shot dif-
ference.
These four players were
placed apart in the KO's
giving them all a chance
of a potential National's
place. In the last 16
Woods beat Keith Cooke
by 11-7 while Mann beat
Davidson again this time
by 11-9.
Best won his last
16 game by 14-9 over
Forncett's Peter Locke
while Maurice Taylor was
knocked out by
Wymondham's Billie Singles Winners
Barker by 10-8. Melvyn Jason Woods
Barker also had a good
day and this time claimed the scalp of Jamie Forster by 7-6 on
Singles Finalist an extra end but lost to Woods in the quarter finals by 14-5.
Chris Mann Mann won his last 16 match by 11-3 over Connaught's
Lee Fallows while Best beat Wymondham's Jon Sparham by
10-7. The other quarter final match saw Billie Barker's run ended by Carter's Nigel Willard by
13-6. In the semi-finals Woods overcame Willard by 11-3 while Mann and Best were involved in
another great tussle as
Mann emerged the victor again by 13-7. The final saw Woods
in great form again and did not let up his pursuit of singles glory.
Mann had to play his best and could not muster it in the final trailing
3-11 after seven ends, Mann killed the jack three times on end
eight but this did not put Woods off as in the end his consistency
came through and won him the title.
The third and fourth playoff between Best and Willard was
decided by a coin toss which Best won. This is now the second
time in succession the third fourth playoff has not been played.

Jack Pye of Wymondham brushed away the disappointment of fail-
ing to qualify for the main competition knockout stages of the of
the SMPT Norwegian Open to power his way through to the final Jack Pye
