Then the last sixteen are again drawn, this produced some very tight results and good 5
games. The quarter final Beer’s “Unbowlievers” Evan & Bev Williams took on Ottery St
Mary’s Anne Bennett & Margaret Chant, with Beer coming out on top. Awliscombe’s Beach
Boys Lee Toleman & Brian Marshall played Winkliegh’s Pinky & Perky, Lorraine Axtell & Gra-
ham James and after a topsy turvey game, Winkliegh came out on top.
Upottery’s City Farmers David Haylor & Robert Bartlett were up against Bow’s Maurice
Kibby and Partner, with Upottery gaining the best result and the other quarter final saw Nomad’s
Young Ones Sue Cockerham & Ray Young take on another Winkliegh pair The Blue’s Bros
John Horsham & Bob Weafer, and after a very tight game, Winkliegh come out on top.
The first semi-final saw Beer against Winkliegh, Lorraine’s pair dominated the game and
won convincingly, the other semi-final saw Winkliegh against Upottery, and after a very nip and
tuck game Winkliegh came out as eventual winner. This left a final of the two Winkliegh teams
against each other; this was a very tight affair indeed with Winkliegh’s Blue Bros the final winner.
Very well done, to all teams who entered and congratulations’ to the overall winners. During
the day all points from each team are added to together and Winkliegh had the most points so
they won the Terry Trott Shield.
Some Pairs really get into the spirit of this even and enter in Fancy Dress. This adds a
great fun flavour to the event but all the players take the event very seriously and it is still very
competitive.
