takes unpaid leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act. In these circumstances, either
partial day or full day deductions may be made.
Subject to the LSBA’s paid vacation and leave policies, regular, full-time exempt Employees are not
paid for any work week in which they perform no work at all for the Company.
Non-Exempt Employees
If an Employee is classified as a non-exempt Employee, he/she is paid for all hours worked per week,
and is also paid 1-1/2 times his/her regular rate of pay for all hours worked in excess of 40 hours in a
single work week.
If an Employee believes that his/her pay has been improperly reduced and/or calculated, he/she should
immediately notify the Executive Director in writing. The Employee may be asked to specify the
circumstances surrounding the disputed deduction. If it is determined that an improper deduction was
made, the Employee will be promptly reimbursed and the LSBA will take all necessary steps to ensure
that such improper deductions or calculations do not continue.
Any Employee with questions concerning his/her employment classification under the FLSA should be
directed to the Executive Director.
2.3 NEW EMPLOYEE ORIENTATION
All newly hired Employees, prior to assuming the duties and responsibilities of their new job position,
must attend orientation. Orientation will enable the Employee to become an integral part of the LSBA
team. During orientation, Employees will be welcomed by the management team and given an
overview of the LSBA philosophy and principles, including, but not limited to all Handbook Policies,
including the Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation Policy; and workplace safety policies.
Employees will also be asked to complete all essential paperwork and will be given information about
eligibility for LSBA benefits, including paperwork necessary for processing Employee paychecks.
2.4 HOURS OF OPERATION
The Louisiana State Bar Association’s office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Employees are expected to be in their offices and ready to begin work by 8:30 a.m. each day and
remain in their offices working until 4:30 p.m. each day, unless their supervisors instruct otherwise.
Employees are required to promptly notify their supervisor or the Executive Director in advance (as
circumstances permit) of any circumstances that will interfere with the Employee’s ability to work
his/her regularly scheduled work hours for any particular work day or week. Modifications to an
Employee’s work schedule must be requested and approved in advance by the Employee’s supervisor
or the Executive Director.
The LSBA reserves the right to change the work schedule of any Employee as necessary to meet the
business needs of the LSBA. Any such changes will be given with reasonable notice (to the extent
possible) to facilitate personal planning of the Employee.
