Re: LSBA Catherine D. Kimball Award for the Administration of Justice

               Dear Ms. Gregorie:

I am writing to recommend Anthony J. “Tony” Marabella, Jr. for the LSBA Catherine D.
Kimball Award for the Administration of Justice.

I am a member in good standing of the Louisiana Bar, having been admitted in 1989. For
the past 13 years, I have served as Louisiana’s State Inspector General. My entire legal career
prior to that involved work in various capacities in the criminal justice system. I have known
Tony Marabella for some 35 years. As a criminal defense attorney in Baton Rouge, I worked
with Tony as co-counsel on several major criminal cases. Among those was a high profile
federal racketeering trial in New Orleans. Due to the length of that trial, we actually moved to
New Orleans and lived together in an apartment for several months. Over many years, I have
personally observed not only Tony’s qualities as a lawyer and judge, but also as a man.

I can honestly say that I would not be where I am today were it not for my association
with Tony Marabella. In working with Tony, I learned what it truly means to be a good lawyer,
one with character, integrity and skill. Perhaps most importantly, Tony taught me that success
starts with hard work and with who you are as a person. Tony Marabella remains one of the
most skilled courtroom lawyers I have ever had the privilege of working with in over 31 years of
practicing law. Aside from his well-earned reputation as one of Louisiana’s elite criminal
                                                                                                            th
defense attorneys, Tony served several terms as a highly regarded criminal court judge in the 19
               JDC in Baton Rouge.

Tony Marabella’s distinguished legal career speaks for itself, but it is who Tony is as a
man that makes him special, and in my opinion uniquely qualified, for this award. Tony always
keeps his word. His work ethic is second to none. He treats everyone with respect, and is a
compassionate and caring man. He is even-handed and impeccably fair. He takes his job
