extremely seriously, and expects others to do the same. While a judge, Tony ran his courtroom
efficiently and with respect for all participants, but had little tolerance for unprepared lawyers or
those who showed disrespect to the court. His broad experience trying complex criminal cases
made him an extremely effective jurist when presiding over those cases. He understood from a
lifetime of experience when to be harsh and when to be merciful.
Throughout my legal career, I have had the opportunity to work with lawyers and appear
before judges from all over the State of Louisiana and elsewhere. I can say confidently that I
have never met a better one than Tony Marabella. While serving as a white collar crime
prosecutor with the Attorney General’s office, I had the opportunity to appear in his court on a
number of cases. I knew going in that I would not receive any favorable treatment whatsoever
because of our prior association. He held me just as accountable as any other lawyer practicing in
his court and called it like he saw it, as often as not against me. Knowing the man, I expected no
less.
It is difficult to express in the form of a letter all of the qualities that Tony Marabella has
that make him deserving of this award. Suffice it to say that in my humble opinion, there is no
one more deserving.
