PASSION LED US HERE!
We’re honored to be this years Lansing Branch NAACP
55th Freedom Fund Televised Celebration Chair and Co-
Chair. This years theme “Passion Led Us Here” truly
reflects the unconditional commitment of our branch to our
mission and vision.
Tonight we have two dynamic speakers, Bakari Sellers,
Attorney, Author and CNN Guest Analyst and our very own
Michigan Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist. Additionally our
Music Director is LaVonte L. Heard and he will be
accompanied by a phenomenal team of youth singers from
his own performing arts center called Transcendence
Performing Arts Center here in Lansing. We will also have a
special music selection from the Chicago Children’s Choir.
Additionally, we also were blessed with a custom created
spoken word by Dr. Kai Love, entitled “Passion.”
This year we wanted to highlight youth as they our legacy.
All of tonight’s musical entertainment will be preformed by
youth who attend a performing arts program. We recognize
our future depends on these and other up and coming youth
leaders and wanted to show our support durning tonight’s
program. They, along with our Executive Committee
guidance, will carry the freedom fighter torch for years to
come.
We have a full exciting program to include our community
awards segment recognizing outstanding community leaders who continue to make a difference in our region.
Please join me in thanking all of our Diamond Sponsor, Jackson National Life and all of our other sponsors, in-kind
donators, members and friends who made tonight possible. A special partnership thank you to WLNS TV 6 for
graciously welcoming our project with open arms. We will forever be grateful to the team at WLNS for operating at
a level of excellence to make tonight’s program exceptional.
Last but not least, without the support of the 55th Freedom Fund Celebration Committee who without hesitation
journeyed with us on reimagining how we could create a virtual program that would engage our audience as if they
were in attendance at our annual dinner. Thank you, Brenda Henderson, Dan Segalman, Sharon Civils, Nicole
Evans, Michelle Miles, Carolyn Odom, James McCurtis Jr. as well as President Copedge for your unwavering
support.
