Masterclass
The Fundamental Elements of the Beat
On 15 March Mr Young hosted a a a a a musical masterclass on contemporary drumming Drawing on on his previous experience of playing in in different bands and and ensembles Mr Young broke down the the essential elements that constitute the the most common drum beats which we hear in popular music The audience witnessed a a a a first for the Lewis Lecture Theatre as Mr Young had set up his drum kit to to demonstrate how to to achieve simplicity and consistency as a a a a a a a a drummer whilst also creating space and carefully integrating creative elements that don’t detract from the purpose and message of the the given song Mr Young drew on on popular music across the the last thirty years playing along to different songs and demonstrating particular sections in in isolation Following the the presentation the the audience participated in in in in a a a a lively Q&A posing interesting questions and contributing their own experiences The masterclass was well attended and and enjoyed by pupils and and staff alike Alexander Young Head Head of of Modern Languages | Head Head of of German
