Welcome to the third edition of Malvern Buzz.
I wish you all the very best for the forthcoming Michaelmas Term and hope all the procedures in place run as smoothly as possible. Hopefully, it won’t be long until we are back to normality! Here at Malvern we are back in the classroom engaging with our pupils after a very successful Summer term of online teaching via Microsoft Teams.
A first class education for our pupils is our focus, however, we recognise that in order for young people to step out into the world with confidence and be able to embrace professional and social opportunities alike, it is necessary to have a combination of Emotional Quotient, Intelligence Quotient and Cultural Intelligence Quotient. While IQ might largely be determined by genetics, both EQ and CQ can be learned, developed and refined. Ensuring our pupils leave Malvern as young adults ready to make their mark, drives and inspires us and why we are continuously reviewing our structure to ensure we are delivering an elite educational experience.
To ensure the continued delivery of a first class education and an innovative approach to teaching and learning, I am thrilled to announce the appointment of Stephen Holroyd as Deputy Head: Curriculum. Stephen was formerly the College’s Head of Economics, Politics and Business & IB Coordinator. I witnessed him put every ounce of drive and energy into that role and this certainly contributed to the exceptional gradings achieved by our IB pupils. His focus will be ensuring that the content and delivery of our curriculum is of the highest provision. He will work alongside the
Headmaster, other Deputy Heads and all the Heads of Department, sharing responsibility for policy and decision making and strategic planning. We have included a feature on Stephen on page 2.
Dr Bradley Wells, former Head of English at Malvern College, has taken on a new role, Head of Academic Scholarships and will be instrumental in the introduction of an Elite Academic Programme for those bright and talented scholars, who through mentoring and a programme of events, societies and collaborations with 3rd parties, such as universities, will be academically challenged and stretched. Please turn to page 6 for more detail.
Please encourage you parents to register and join our Virtual Open Day on Saturday 3rd October, so they can see just what we have on offer here at Malvern.
We hope to welcome many of you to Malvern College this academic year and look forward to hosting your pupils at events we have planned such as our celebration of Virtual Poetry Day on the 15th October.
