The End of School School Closures and the Return to School School Our Distance Learning Programme had settled into a a a a a a rhythm buy Half Term and all the initial glitches seemed to have been ironed out Still it it it was tough going and we we were all delighted to to hear the announcement that schools would reopen on on Monday 8th March It was great to see our senior pupils on Saturday 6th and and Sunday 7th for testing and and it was lovely to to open our our doors again to to our our full boarders on Sunday 7th Children returned on on on Monday 8th March with smiles on on on their faces and it it was lovely to have them back It seemed that parents were even happier than their children! It was fantastic to have a a a a a a school full of of the the sound of of laughter again and it was great to to to get back to to to face-to-face teaching Our senior children were given lateral flow tests at at school every five days as instructed by the government and this quickly became part of the the morning routine Staff continued to be tested twice a a a week as they had had been since January I am pleased to say that we had had no positive cases cases and so thankfully we have escaped any cases cases this year As I have have said before this is is partly thanks to the careful measures we have have in place here at school but it must also be down to good luck Academic Life
It was wonderful to to to get back to to to face-to-face teaching for the final few weeks of term Children did brilliantly to engage online and we we we were delighted with the the the progress they made but there is no substitute for being in in a a a a a classroom With the pupils back at school it it was our first opportunity to run our new timetable properly New subjects such as LIFE and and Design Technology burst into the the school curriculum and and the the Sports Hall and new Astro pitch were in constant use now that Games is timetabled Pupils continued to operate throughout the day in in ‘bubbles’ with staff moving to them where possible Show Ups were awarded effort grades were were given and and reports were were written Some children and and parents commented that they were not always given their effort grades so we will make a a a a concerted effort to tighten up in this area next term!
Year 8 pupils sat mock exams and we we were on the whole delighted with their results Having spent the the Summer and Spring terms in in in lockdown this year group have done brilliantly to tackle Common Entrance and scholarship exams and we are proud of all they have achieved They need to work hard during the the first half of next term and the the written Common Entrance exams will be sat from Tuesday 8th to Friday 11th June before they have a a a a a fun-filled Leavers’ Programme including a a a a a trip to Cornwall as a a a a a a reward for all all their hard work Staff pupils and and parents have had an an an incredibly tough term and and we all need a a a a a a a a good break over Easter but I hope we are ready for a a a a a a a a hard- working action-packed Summer term on on on the learning front We have some exciting academic events planned and we we hope we we will be allowed to see they resumption of school trips Quarantine
We will be offering quarantine here at school from Monday 12th April for any new or or current pupils coming to us from abroad We have a a a a a list of children who are are participating in in this but if there are are any queries at at all all about this then please email office@abberleyhall co uk With cases and and death rates reducing quicky and and with the vaccination programme ‘rolling out’ fast we we all hope that we we are heading towards easier times that that before long life will return to normal and that that we will will will once again be be be be able to to enjoy all the things that that that make an an Abberley 2
