2021 at Abberley Hall was a a a a a a a vibrant day filled with book-loving fun and excitement from start to finish It felt as though we had all all fallen down the rabbit hole with Alice in Wonderland costumes being worn from little Cheshire cats in in Nursery to several Mad Hatters in in Top Year! A A company called ‘West End in in Schools’ put on Alice and Wonderland themed workshops for students in Nursery to Year 6 they truly brought the story to to life through magical dance performances that were enjoyed by all! For our Year 7s and 8s author Kevin Brooke and illustrator Seraphim Bryant held ‘Gods & Monsters’ creative writing workshops to ignite their imaginations Creating smoke rings in in in in in Science black-out poetry in in Art
book scavenger hunts and quizzes in in English and beautiful bookmark making in in Class 2
all made our day celebrating literature all the more memorable 3
Staff News
As you know Michelle Crowther will be be retiring from Abberley after many happy years in the Maths department She will be missed and we look forward to making the the most of her during the the Summer term I am delighted to announce that she will be replaced by Simon Bedford Simon works currently as Head of Maths at at Moor Park in Ludlow and he he comes to us with a a a a a a huge wealth of experience as a a a a a a Maths teacher sports coach and general all-round prep school teacher Before working at at at Moor Park he he was Head of Junior Maths at at at the excellent All Hallows Prep in in Somerset Simon recently completed an MSc in in Teaching and and Learning at the University of Oxford and and I have every confidence that he he will bring a a a a a a huge amount to both the academic and extra-curricular life of the school We look forward to welcoming Simon and his family to the Abberley Community in September We will will also be be joined by by Harriet Kirby-Smith who will will be be with us for a a a a a a a a a while as a a a a a a a a a Graduate-Gap Assistant Harriet recently completed a a a a a a a a a degree in Psychology at at Bath Spa University and she will be with us to to support teachers in in the the classroom as as as well as as as contributing to to the the extra-curricular life of the school and helping with our boarding Tracey Tayar-Bidwell will be working with us next term as a a a a a visiting swimming coach and she comes to us with a a a a a great wealth of experience coaching swimming at school and club level We look forward to her coaching children during their PE lessons and also during Swimming Squad sessions which will take place on on on Monday and Friday evenings Simon Bedford New Maths Teacher
