Transform Their World
Welcome to Malvern Times.
The full return of pupils for the Summer Term has given such
a positive boost to the whole Malvern community. The excitement of being together once more with friends, back in the classroom and getting involved in the full array of super and co-curricular activities is palpable.
Pupils and staff have been busy with both school and house events we had feared may not be able to take place. ‘Pupil Thrive’ our pupil-driven wellbeing and mental health group has been able to meet and respond to the recent issues raised
in the UK media and I am extremely thankful to the Chapel Prefects and Heads of House who, with the support of other senior pupils and the pastoral team, have proactively led a school wide discussion on a range of important issues.
We have also been able to resume some tours of the school. For those prospective families for whom a visit is just not possible, we offer live-virtual tours, please do contact our Admissions Team if you would like to partake in either.
In April we launched The Malvern College Podcast which has been great fun to record. Each week a new episode features members of our community and that includes, current pupils, teaching staff, Old Malvernians (OMs) and parents. The response from listeners has been really positive and we are already scheduling podcasts for the Autumn Term.
Last month saw the launch of Malvern TEDx. This is a collection of original TED talks made by our pupils as part of the U6th IB Summer School Programme. The topics and presenters were varied with some challenging topics. The guest speakers were introduced and then questioned by our pupils. The questions produced even more interesting facts, an example being the answer to the question about air pollution put to Mr Alessandro Bisagni, Founder and Managing Director of BEE Incorporations, an international sustainability engineering consulting and technology company. The question was ‘Which plants can help reduce air pollution in our homes?’ The answer was most, but especially Mother-in-Law’s tongue, which despite its unfortunate name is apparently incredibly useful in reducing Volatile Organic Compounds from the air.
