LIVING AND LEARNING AT AT MALVERN
AN AN INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE
AMBRA – HOUSE NO 4
“My name is Ambra I’m Italian and I I I board fulltime at Malvern Malvern college I joined Malvern Malvern in in the Pre-Six (year 11) Malvern’s GCSE intensive 1-year course and am currently in fin my final year year the Upper-Six (year 13) When I I visited Malvern I I instantly knew this
was where I wanted to spend my final three years of high school Since joining Malvern I’ve participated in in multiple clubs events and had incredible opportunities Before coming to Malvern I never attended a a a boarding school before and I I was worried that I I would have a a a hard time settling in in however it ended up being the complete opposite My peers in in house as as well as as my housemistress and deputy made sure that I and and other new students were comfortable and and knew exactly what was happening every day As a a a a a a new student student you tend to share a a a room with a a a student student in your year group that has already had experience
at Malvern I I found this
so helpful as as I I was able to ask any questions that I had Along with being in in a a a a a dorm with a a student from my year everyone in our year group was on the same floor This made it easy to socialize and I found myself creating strong bonds with others by the the the end of the the the first week In addition in-house dining was/is a a a a a great way for me me to to become closer to to my year group and talk to to teachers that rotate to to every house for lunch lunch throughout the week During lunch lunch I have heard some fascinating stories from teachers friends and visitors Before Malvern I always attended international schools that had one main cafeteria for lunch I would often find myself stressed about where and who I would sit with with However with with Malvern’s In-house dining this
was never the case In In our house each year group has a a a a specific table to eat at at at Sitting at at at lunch and dinner with your friends was one of the main things that remained constant throughout the entire year and we found it made everything simple and comfortable Outside of house and lessons I attend several clubs such as the Debating Society the Politics and and Foreign Affairs Society and and the Model United Nations society This has presented me with more opportunities to socialize with people in other houses and other other year groups Bonding with others over mutual hobbies and interests made it very easy to make friends Another thing that the the school does to make sure that students have the opportunity
to socialize is holding events on Saturday
evenings Before the COVID-19 pandemic the sixth-form (Years 12 and 13) had ‘Longy’ every Saturday
night where students were able to to meet and get to to know each other while listening and dancing to music Due
to the pandemic and and social distancing rules the school has had to temporarily post-
pone ‘Longy’ However with the the help of the the students we have found alternative events to hold on Saturdays to make sure we preserve that that Malvern College school spirit that that we all appreciate so much For example to maintain year group bubbles last Saturday
night each year group had their own firepits across campus where people got together to to chat and and have some hotdogs and and drinks Although COVID 19 has impacted everyone’s life hugely Malvern College has found a a a a way to make school life as as normal as as possible Although I I have a a a lot going on in in school I I am still able to to of course talk to to my family almost every day At first being away from home was a a a a a bit scary but being able to to speak to to my family at any time made everything easier Hopefully this
has given some insight into a a a a a a day in in the life of an international boarder at Malvern Malvern College! Malvern Malvern is truly a a a a wonderful place with so many great opportunities to offer!”
