1.2 Writing


               1.2.1   Read the definition of a paragraph as well as topic sentences and their supporting ideas.

               A paragraph is a group of related sentences that develop a main idea about a single topic. The structure
               of a paragraph is not complex. There are usually three basic elements: a topic, a topic sentence, and
               supporting details. The topic sentence states the main idea. The sentences that explain this main point
               or idea are called supporting details. These details can be facts, reasons, or examples that provide
               further information about the topic sentence.

               1.2.2 Look at the example paragraph. Notice the topic sentence. It is underlined.














               1.2.3 Read the paragraph and tick (✔) the best topic sentence.















               1.2.4 Consider the paragraph from exercise 1.2.2. Write 5 topic sentences. Add a supporting idea
               to each one.
                       E.g.: Topic sentence: My brother collected a lot of toys when he was a kid.

                       Supporting Idea: These toys included cars, action figures, and model planes.
