Richard Antonio Carapaz Montenegro was born on May 29 , 1993 in the community La Playa in the
Carchi province, in Ecuador. Carchi is known as the capital of Ecuadorian cycling. He is a cyclist, who
currently rides for the Movistar Team participating at UCI World Team Level, and he is nicknamed "La

Locomotora" (The Locomotive). Carapaz comes from a poor family, but he always had big dreams, and
cycling gave him the opportunity to become the person he is now.
