Bus Signs
Your 4 bus signs are to be put up while the bus is parked, from the inside, facing out. One bus sign for the front, back and each side so that you and your children can easily find your bus at the end of the day. It is helpful to make them on pastel paper and they only need to include your site name.
Wristband/Name Tags
Wristbands are our name tags. The wristbands are strong, secure and tamper resistant. Each site will be given its very own color wristband. Make sure that both the staff and children at your site know your site’s particular color just in case a child is separated from the group or gets lost. The wristband is to be worn on the wrist by every child who attends the field trip. Make sure that the wristband is visible at all times. Each band has already been imprinted with the CTPR logo and the office phone number. A CTPR staff member must write, with marker, the child’s first & last name and the site name on the wristband (a Sharpie marker works best). Each site will be given wristbands for all of the field trips during site set-up. Always bring extra wristbands.
Bus Policy
Do not keep your bus for longer than 5 minutes. Every site has its own bus, so you will go directly to the field trip location. See ‘Field Trips’ in the Handbook for directions if the bus driver needs them.
Children must board, ride, and disembark from the bus in an orderly fashion. A staff person from each site must go through the bus after the children are off to be sure that it is clean and set for the driver. Do not allow kneeling on seats, lying down, standing or switching seats, waving or yelling out the windows during the bus ride.
Staff must be alert and supervising the participants at all times. Do not sleep, listen to music, use your phone (except in emergency) on the bus. It is best to split the staff up throughout the bus. Having one staff member at the front, one near the middle and one or two in the back will alleviate any potential problems.
Create a Door Sign
Post signs prominently, where parents and participants are likely to see them, when they come to your site when you are not there. Most sites will need to make more than one sign. Don’t make the public walk all the way around the building only to find out that the site is closed. To avoid this, post one sign on your site door and another at or near the designated drop off area. Make sure to remove all signs as soon as you return from the field trip. Make a new one each week, info must change!
Text a picture of your door sign to your supervisor, prior to departing for field trip.

Arriving at the Field Trip Destination
Have children leave the bus and break into groups, if appropriate. Double check who is in each group and what staff member is in charge of that group. Double check when the group will meet to leave and where. Be sure each staff person has a working time piece.
Children cannot be left on their own at any field trip.
Staff members will need to do group rest room breaks, lunch times and souvenir stops. If the children are swimming that means the staff is also swimming. During field trips you are being paid to interact with your children, not with other CTPR employees. Children must hold their own spending money, lunches and any other valuables.
Leaving a Field Trip Site
Have your group clean the area completely. Do not clean up after your children - have your children clean up after themselves. Have your group meet and prepare to board the bus without waiting for a supervisor to tell you to get ready. Call roll and get a positive response for each name called; to ensure you have every student. DO NOT EVER COUNT HEADS. Once you have accounted for each participant please check in with a supervisor to see if your group can board the bus. Arriving Back to your Site
Have children leave the bus as the driver desires (windows up or down). One staff member should check the bus and remove all litter and left over belongings and sign anything that the driver needs. Stay on site and follow regular programming until the end of the day.
