My Dream
1971
It was a couple of days after my operation: Probably I was under sedation. It was a deep
sleep.
I was going along our Uduvil road in a car towards Mission House. The car stopped at our
Amaragiri Gate and Samuel came hurrying out of the house and opening the gate came up
to the car. He said, “I’ve been waiting for you for so long…” and then he said a strange
thing. He said “Saras, what are you doing? Looking after other folks’ children, neglecting
your own.”

It was like a whiplash. I must have wept and then I woke up with a start.
A possible explanation. I had of course been worried. What if my operation revealed a
cancerous growth? The children were still so young. Who would take care of them? And
yet is that the explanation? Why Samuel? Why Amaragiri? Why on the road to School?
7 Sentha was sent to study at an Indian School in Madras (away from her family) and Shankaran was sent
elsewhere. The “Neglect” that Samuel was possibly referring to, was that Sentha and Shankaran were not with
Saras as they ought to have been during their teen years. Meantime she was schooling other people’s
children.
