A B O U T
Incorporated as a Private Non-Profit
Corporation in January 1985, Southern
Maryland Vocational Industries, Inc., doing
business as EPIC (Empowering People with
Intellectual Challenges) was founded in
response to the realization of a group of
parents that their children with disabilities
would not have services or support from
the State of Maryland, once their child
graduated from special education classes.
These parents banded together to devise a
program that would enable their children
and other unserved children to become
gainfully employed adults.
M I S S I O N
To empower adults with Intellectual and
Developmental Disabilities to maximize
their independence.
V I S I O N
To provide a safety net of vital services for
people with Intellectual and Developmental
Disabilities (IDD). Our purpose is to help
people with IDD have a better quality of life.
