Maintenance Phase

• For medium-to-high risk patients (elevated complex loads):
maintenance recall every 3 months for first 1–2 years.
• At each visit: prophylaxis/cleaning, subgingival instrumentation
as needed, antiseptic irrigation, review of homecare, assess
systemic factors
• Periodic microbial monitoring (e.g., annually or when clinical
signs appear) to detect recolonization of red/orange/green/
purple complexes.

• If recolonization or disease flare: repeat non-surgical/adjunctive
therapy as above.
