Step 1
Baseline Assessment &
Risk-Factor Management
• Perform full periodontal charting: pocket depths (PPD), bleeding
on probing (BOP), suppuration, mobility, furcations, radiographs.
• Confirm ImpetusDX Oral Health Panel results indicating
low detected levels. Continue to Step 2a.
• Confirm ImpetusDX Oral Health Panel results indicating
medium or high detected levels. Continue to Step 2b and 3.
• Assess systemic risk factors: smoking status, diabetes/glycemic
control, immunocompromise, medications, periodontal-
systemic links.
• Review and reinforce patient homecare: brushing technique,
interdental cleaning, possible adjunctive rinses (chlorhexidine,
povidone iodine, chlorine dioxide or sodium hypochlorite).
• Address local contributory factors: overhangs, defective
restorations, calculus, occlusal trauma, prostheses/implants,
biofilm retention areas.
• Establish hygiene improvement threshold (e.g., <20 % plaque
score) before major therapy if feasible.
