The right elbow drops back towards
the right side to start the
downswing, flattening the plane
and opening the clubface relative
to the path.
If the backswing is started by the right hand pulling the club away
from the ball, the hands will often separate on the club and allow
the right elbow to get too high at the top of the backswing.
The range of motion of the hands and arms is different relative to
a 90° shoulder turn.
