P. 6

Start with a

                     putter

The first step is to hold your putter and make a few practice

strokes without a ball. Your brain is not overloaded with

sensory inputs, and so you will be able to perceive changes in

your grip pressure. Once you have experienced the stroke

while maintaining constant pressure, once again aiming for a

constant pressure of 5 on a scale of 1-10, you are ready to try

this with a ball. Do not aim for a target or have any pre-

conceived notions about how far the ball should go. Your goal

is to repeat the practice stroke, maintains the same pressure

and allowing the ball to get in the way of the stroke. For many

of you, this will be an entirely new sensation and possibly the

first time that you have made contact with a golf ball while

maintaining constant pressure. You need not worry about grip

position during this exercise; if the pressure remains constant,

there is very little chance that the position will change.

If you have trouble performing this drill, you are probably

using your hands rather than your chest and shoulders to

move the putter. Try this drill and notice that you are
