6.  To complete the surgeon’s knot, simply trim the working
              ends off as close to the knot as possible.  The finished
              knot should look like the one you see in figure 38e but
              the working ends haven’t been trimmed off in the photo.
              Of course, if you are planning on using this knot for fish-
              ing,  you’ll  want  to  trim  these  working  ends  closely  to
              the knot.

            Possible Uses:
            1.  The surgeon’s knot is often used for tying a leader onto
              the end of your fishing line.

            2.  It can also be used to tie a tippet to the end of your fly
              fishing leader.  If you’re not familiar with this angling term,
              a “tippet” is a very lightweight section of monofilament
              line that is tied onto the end of your leader.  The goal is to
              fool the fish into thinking that the artificial fly at the end
              of your line is the real deal.  By tying a thin tippet to the
              end of your leader, it makes it possible to cast a fly line
              so that it gently settles onto the water without making
              an unnatural splash.
