10. Gently pull on the standing parts of both lines to take
some of the slack out of the knot.
11. Quickly pull the standing parts to tighten the knot. Keep
in mind that when tying some knots, they look similar
when they are loosely dressed to the way they will
look after they are tightened. This knot is a different
beast altogether! The finished knot looks nothing like
the lightly dressed knot appearing in step 9. When you
quickly pull on the standing parts in this step, the wraps
tighten in unison and transform as if by magic. It may
take several attempts before you get one that looks cor-
rect. If you don’t perform all the steps correctly when
tying this knot, the wraps won’t align properly during
this step.
12. Trim the working ends off as close to the knot as you
can and you have tied a blood knot. The finished knot
should look like the one you see in figure 37f.
