Something to Consider
              Before You Tie Any Knot

Regardless of what type of knot you tie, it’s important
for you to understand that it is friction that holds it in
place. Without adequate friction, the cordage used to tie
the knot may slip and the knot can become untied. This
is most commonly seen with low-friction cordage such as
monofilament fishing line and rope that has a plastic-like
feel to it. Fishermen know all too well that if you don’t use
the proper type of knot when tying a hook or lure onto
monofilament line, the line can actually slide through the
knot and the hook will come off when put under the stress
of trying to reel in a fish.
There are so many reasons you might want to tie a knot
that it would be impossible to even attempt to name them
all. With this in mind, there is a very important factor to
consider when you are choosing the particular knot to tie.
Each time you tie a knot, think about whether you’ll ever
            need to untie it.
Some knots can be extremely difficult, if not impossible,
to untie after a considerable amount of tension has been
