The Most Important Step
in Learning to Tie Knots
Before moving on, you should know that the following knots
are a compilation of knots that could be useful in prepping
and survival situations. They were invented long before any-
one ever used the term prepper. Nevertheless, for the pur-
pose of this book, they are referred to as prepper knots. We
will first cover some very basic knots to get your feet wet,
so to speak, and then move on to more advanced knots as
you gain experience. This seems like a good time to bring
up one of the most important topics in this book: When
it comes to learning how to tie knots, nothing is more
important than practice!
Think of the last time you tied your shoelaces. Did you go
to your bookshelf and pull out your trusty copy of The Field
Guide to Tying Your Shoelaces? Of course not, because you’ve
tied your laces so many times that it has become second
nature to you. You’ve created what is referred to as “muscle
memory.” When you practice tying a knot enough times, you
won’t even have to think about the steps involved in tying
