2. This knot is also commonly used as a foundation for more
complex knots used in mountaineering.
Figure 8 Loop
If you ever need to tie a relatively secure loop in your rope,
you may want to consider using this knot. This knot is com-
monly used in mountaineering.
Pros: It’s quite easy to tie, even in the middle of a length of
rope, assuming that the rope isn’t under tension.
Cons: Depending on the particular rope you are using, it
might be difficult to untie this knot after a considerable
amount of tension has been applied to the rope.
How to tie it:
1. Form a bight where you want to tie the figure 8 loop as
illustrated in figure 14a.
