ing end that has been threaded back through the figure
8 knot.
5. To dress the knot, flip the top strand of the rope that
is nearest to the standing part down so that the knot is
symmetrical when inspecting it from both ends of the
“8” and both sides of the knot. Figure 15c shows the top
strand flipped down. Note the difference between how
the knot looks in figure 15b and 15c. In figure 15c, the
knot is nice and symmetrical.
