10. Pull the knot tight and you’ve completed the one-hand-
ed bowline. You can see how the finished bowline will
be around your waist illustrated in figure 21i.

Possible Uses:
1. Imagine you are taking a canoe on a river and it capsizes.
Suddenly you find yourself being swept down the river
when someone on the bank sees you and throws you a
rope. Even if the current isn’t swift, it may be quite dif-
ficult to hold on to the end of a rope, especially when it’s
