UP AND AWARE - 8

                                         Chapter 4: Responsibility (Decision Making)

Think About and Discuss (on page 32):
‘Write learners’ definitions of the word responsibility on the board.

Underline the words that come up more than once.
Once all the definitions are up on the board ask learners which words are the most important ones.

Together, create a definition of the word responsibility. For example: being dependable for doing what
you say you will do, completing a task, etc. Make learners write the definition in the workbooks.

                  Paired Exercise (on page 35):
Ask the question, ‘What makes you do that?’ and allow learners to think deeper. They may not come up
with anything to begin with. Give them time to think.
Write down their responses on the board. Guide them to break down their responses to step-by-step
thinking that was involved in taking the action.
The discussion should steer towards helping them see the following:

                  1. Saw a situation
                  2. Considered what to do (thought of different options, like stopping the ball before it hits someone,
hiding the ball from the children or bullying them)
                  3. Decided what to do
                  4. Chose to do it
                  5. Did it (carried out the responsibility)
                  6. Accepted the consequences of choice and action

This step-by-step process will help learners for the next exercise.

Exercise and Discuss (on page 37):
                  Answers:
Activity Legal age (actual, as per the law)

                   ride a two-wheeler/drive a car (with license) 16 years/18 years respectively
get married 18 years for girls; 21 years for boys

take up a job 18 years

                                   Chapter 5: Collaboration (Interpersonal Relationship)
The objective of collaborative and cooperative learning is to help learners learn not just to work with
each other but also to learn from others and complete the task.
Through all the activities and lessons, remind learners about the following:

                  1. Stay focused on the task.

                  2. Contribute ideas while working on the task.
