Respect is listening to others when they speak just as you would like to
be listened to.

The great scientist Albert Einstein said, ‘I speak to everyone in the same way,
whether he is the garbage man or the president of the university.’

What do you think he meant by this?

Respect is understanding that others think and behave differently from you.

Think About and Discuss:

Refer to Mahatma Gandhi's quote at the beginning of the chapter. Do you think Mahatma
Gandhi was a Hindu, Muslim, Christian AND a Jew? If not, what do you think he meant by
that? Was he being respectful to all religions?

By looking at people can you tell things about their:

1. religion

2. job (doctor, lawyer, musician, painter)

3. city they were born in?

If no, explain why?

Disrespect is the opposite of Respect.
