Activity 2 Experiential Art Communication
Integration
Learning
Nukkad natak also known as street theatre is one of the oldest forms
of art. It is highly popular even today. Street theatre today plays a
very important role in influencing the masses with their beautifully
choreographed scripts. The purpose of such performances is to raise
social awareness on issues that affect us. It is also super fun in getting
to perform street theatre. The spaces used could be shopping centers,
schools, colleges, hotel entrances, parks, or street corners. Artists hardly
use costumes or makeup while performing the same.
Covid-19 has changed the world enormously. After the world went
on a complete lockdown in 2020, things are still uncertain in many
countries. People need to realise the importance of wearing a mask,
washing of hands and repeated sanitisation at all times. Let’s try and
help by performing a Nukkad natak.
1. Work in teams of 10 and plan a Nukkad natak to raise awareness
about the need to follow Covid appropriate behaviour.
• Pick a venue.
• Plan the script and choreography.
• Choose the characters.
• Write the script for a duration of 3-5 minutes maximum. Rehearse
and perform.
• Watch few street plays online or in person to understand the art
form. Share your experience with your friends if you have already
witnessed any before.
