The word ‘civilisation’ comes from the Latin word ‘civis’ meaning city.
The world’s earliest civilisations developed in or around river valleys as
water was needed for growing crops.
1. Look at the pictures carefully and write—(H) for Harappan, (C) for
Chinese, (E) for Egyptian and (M) for Mesopotamian civilisations.
2. Divide the class into four groups and assign one civilisation to each
group. Ask the students to make a PowerPoint presentation on life,
society, developments and culture of their times. Share the presentation
in your class.
3. Collect pictures of the various artefacts of the four civilisations and
paste them in your scrapbook and label them.
