There are professions that involve intense physical labour, but do
not pay well. The poem ‘The Village Blacksmith’ illustrates one such
example. You must have observed how hard house helpers, street
vendors and daily wage earners work throughout the day. Most of
them come to the metropolitan cities from their villages or small
towns, leaving their families behind to earn a living.
Prepare a detailed questionnaire and conduct an interview with one
such person. Transcribe the interview and share your findings before
the class. Remember to be sensitive and respect their privacy, if they
choose not to answer certain questions. Make sure you provide all
the details of the activity to the person and get their consent before
interviewing them.
