Vital Business Functions
         Check your knowledge of terms
 Availability – The ability of a service or component to perform its agreed function when required. Reliability – Defines how seldom something fails.
Resilience – The ability of a service or component to continue to perform while having portions of the service or component having failed.
Maintainability – The ability of a component to be able to be repaired or worked upon by internal IT resources. Serviceability – The ability of a component to be repaired or worked upon by resources supplied by a vendor or
manufacturer.
Security - The process responsible for ensuring that the confidentiality, integrity and availability of an organization’s assets, information, data and IT services match the agreed needs of the business. Information security management supports business security and has a wider scope than that of the IT service provider, and includes
handling of paper, building access, phone calls etc. for the entire organization.
Vital Business Functions (VBF’s) – Part of a business process that is critical to the success of the business. Vital business functions are an important consideration of business continuity management, IT service continuity management and availability management.
