I aspire to do things
Remember applying for your first-ever citizen password with your father? Today is eleven days after we turned 16 -
the date is November 1, 2021. When you read this in the year 2031, you will have experienced ten winters, your
younger sisters - currently kindergartners - will be starting high school, you might even be engaged, and perhaps
mars will have finally become inhabited by humans.
Right now, I (the present one) am currently on the third floor of the school, wondering about where I will be in ten
years. I aspire to do great things, to make my parents proud and to become the best version of myself. So, in the
next ten years, I'm looking forward to meet my new university classmates, to take classes of famous professors, to
get involved in groundbreaking scientific researches, to publish my first work, to mentor my own team and to help
millions of people.
But, to tell you the truth, I'm also feeling a bit nervous about the future. Throughout my sophomore year, I looked at
the senior students around me and admired the seeming easiness with which they aced exams, worked at the
laboratory and stayed motivated. Now that it is my turn, I'm worried that I'll struggle to reach the expectation of
others, and more importantly, the expectations of myself. But, by the time you read this, I believe you would have
already passed insecurity and had accomplished your dream.
I've been blessed with a warm and loving family that looks after me, caring mentors who train me, and wonderful
classmates who support me. I hope you spread these gifts forward by being the confidant and mentor for others as
well, and I hope when you look back upon the past, you do so with pride – knowing that you have been honourable,
kind, and carried yourself in high esteem. Most of all, I hope that you have enjoyed these past ten years — that you
allowed yourself to do the things you love and have taken care of yourself. I am satisfied if the Ichinkhorloo who
reads this is still a girl who smiles to herself, remembering just how blessed and beloved she is.
As one of my favourite quotes says,
"Kings to you".
