“Thank you for the offer,” Craig said, “but we
already have a guide, our Travel Bug.”

      “Thanks anyway,” added Claudia.

The Grand Nautica started toward the ocean,
but the monkeys ran after it and climbed up the
sides.

“Oh, come on,” said Feather-Cap, peering
over the deck. “We’re just being friendly. You
don’t want to hurt our feelings, do you?”

The kids didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, so they reluctantly let the monkeys
come aboard.

The Grand Nautica sailed toward the ?rst place marked on the treasure map—an
old, twisted tree covered with gray vines. Captain Feather-Cap, who had taken over the
map, shouted out directions.

“Now go 30 paces north! Around the tide pool traps! Past the sunbathing
star?sh! Through the turtle-shaped tunnel!”

Finally, the captain spotted a large cave near the top of a rocky cliff. “The treasure
should be in there!” he shouted. “Let’s go!”

The monkeys jumped out of the Grand Nautica and raced up the rocks, leaving
the kids and the Travel Bug far behind. When the three ?nally reached the cave, they
found the monkeys screeching and jumping around an old wooden chest. The
captain lifted up the heavy top and a burst of rainbow colors sprang from the

open chest, ?lling the cave with sparkly light.

The treasure! There were shiny coins,
                                                     golden goblets, glowing gemstones,
                                                      and shimmering pearls!

                                                                                                           27
