2. How seriously the safety considered by customer The health and Safety are NTPC's top priority. The
ultimate aim is to have no incident that harm its people, neighbour or put its plant at risk, therefore,
NTPC gives utmost importance to providing a safe working environment and creating safety
awareness among its employees and Contractor's.
Various initiatives have been taken by NTPC towards the goal of “Zero Accidents” includes
Ø Creation of the concept of safety consciousness among its employees and Contractors by
means of various training programmes, awareness programmes and road shows.
Ø Using system approach by adopting and implementing ISO-14001, ISO 9001-2000, OHSAS -
18001, 5S, Six Sigma etc.
Ø Height permit and height check list are implemented to ensure safety of workers while working
at heights
Ø Regular Site inspection and review with Head of Projects.
Ø Internal and External Safety Audit.
3. Consequences if the requirements not met as per the contract
The consequences of Non-compliance of Occupational Safety and Health pursuant to Contractual
requirements can end up paying a variety of penalty, some are definite and simple to calculate, and
other are less quantifiable, but real though.
4. Importance of Safety performance for new contract
NTPC gives high importance to Safety requirements; therefore, Safety adherence clauses in the NTPC
Contract documents are regularly being reviewed and monitored to make more feasible and
practicable approach based on introduction and implementation of latest proven practices which in
turn ease to provide safe working environment.
In Farakka Project, NTPC has introduced Safety Condition in Payment terms of Service Contract. Hence,
non-adherence of safety requirements as per the contract shall entitle NTPC to deduct the amount
directly towards progressive invoices. Such conditions were not available in Mouda and Rihand
Projects.
5. Specific requirements of customers / Market expectations (For New Bidding) like Environmental &
OH&S Management Systems.
In this era of EPC Business every Customers wants to give utmost priority to Environment and OH& S
Management systems due to introduction of various laws and regulation by competent authorities.
Requirements related to environment and OH & S Management system are varies based on working
condition and type. Contractor should adopt and implements ISO-14001, ISO 9001-2000, OHSAS -
18001, 5S, Six Sigma etc, in their standard of working principle which inturn enable them to qualify and
meet market expectation.
6. How HSE importance to the future of the organisation.
Organisation should make mandatory training towards HSE to all its employees and get certify by ISO-
14001, ISO 9001-2000, OHSAS -18001etc. These small steps towards Safety implementation in
organisation shall enable it to meet all future requirements related to Safety.
